Rodriguez enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He slapped a single in the 4th inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 1st of the season) in the 5th inning and slapped a base-hit scoring a run in the 7th inning. Danville had 11 hits for the night.

Right fielder Juan Gonzalez smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Mark Buehrle was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Danville Dixie Dynomite destroyed the Sterling Gas House Gang by a score of 17 to 1 at Nobel Field.
Gonzalez was really 'in the zone'. He stroked a single in the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 4th inning, laced a base-hit plating two runs in the 4th inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 2nd of the season) in the 7th inning and hit a one-base hit in the 8th inning. Danville bats were hot in the 4th inning with 7 runs on 4 hits sending Mike Hampton to the showers. In the 7th Gonzalez lead off with a solo homer off of Jeff Shaw and Jose Hernandez followed with a back-to-back jack, the Shaw retired Tino Martinez and Mike Redmond, but Jay Payton smacked the next pitch into the cheap seats chasing Shaw. Gary Glower came in to pitch to pinch hitter Craig Paquette who promptly jerked a fastball down the middle into the left field stands for another back-to-back jack and the fourth solo shot of the inning. In the 8th inning Danville plated 6 more runs on 6 hits. Danville had 15 hits for the night.
Buehrle(1-0) was on his game allowing only 1 run in his complete game effort. The loss was charged to Mike Hampton(0-1). He allowed Danville 7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. Danville leads the series 2-0.

Second baseman Quilvio Veras had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Frito Lay Park where the Danville Dixie Dynomite beat the Sterling Gas House Gang by the score of 6 to 2.
Danville scored 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Jose Hernandez who quieted the home crowd when he slapped a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners. Danville's defense played a big part in the game turning 3 double-plays. The Dynomite ended up with 11 hits for the game while Sterling had 8. It is significant to note that Tino Martinez's pinch hit triple in the 8th came on a split which needed a 1.
The victory went to John Burkett(1-0) who went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs. Arthur Rhodes and Kazuhiro Sasaki shut the Gang's lineup down for the remaining three innings. Omar Daal(0-1) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 9 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings. Danville leads the series 3-0 with the 4th game scheduled tomorrow.

Ivan Rodriguez went yard and had 3 RBI as the Danville Dixie Dynomite topped the Sterling Gas House Gang by a score of 9 to 7 at Frito Lay Park to sweep the first round of the playoffs. The Dynomite jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 in the first and 3 more in the second inning chasing Kevin Tapani. Sterling came back with 3 in the 3rd chasing Wakefield, before Randy Choate got the Dynos out of the inning. Danville added one in the 4th which was fortunate as the gang tallied 3 more runs in the 4th off of Rudy Seanez, before Lorenzo Barcelo stepped up and took charge. Danville tacked on 1 more in the 6th and again in the 8th while Sterling managed a pinch hit solo shot against Arthur Rhodes, but was unable to do anything else against the Rhodes/Sasaki combo.
Rick Wakefield was the starter for Danville, but he got into trouble early. Lorenzo Barcelo(1-0) was the winning pitcher with a solid relief performance. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 3 walks in 4 innings. Danville had 15 hits for the night.
Barcelo was helped out by Kazuhiro Sasaki who recorded his 1st save. Kevin Tapani(0-1) suffered the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 7 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Danville slapped 11 homeruns in the 4-game series which included the 3 in game 4 at Sterling and had a team batting average of .351 for the series (2 games without DH) and slugged .662 as a team while tallying a team ERA of 3.50.
