Cleveland Wins Fourth GABL Championship
The Baergas and the Convicts meet in the 2004 finals.The Convicts have been good for a while adding Pedro Martinez several years ago and pulled the BIG trade off this year in adding Barry Bonds. The Baergas have been rebuilding for several years and are hungry for another GABL title. The Convicts and Baergas met several years back in the finals with the Baergas sweeping the Convicts in 4 games. The Convicts have vowed revenge. Both teams finished the season with identical 96-56 records. The Baergas seem to have a slight edge in the bullpen and don`t really have any easy outs throughout their lineup. The Convicts have the super cards of Pedro and Barry. It looked like a pretty even series. The Convicts are looking for their first GABL title--The Baergas have 3 in the bank and are looking for 4.
Game 1 was an incredible game. Pedro Martinez pitched a fine game, only giving up 1 run but Barry Zito pitched 8 shutout innings and super closer Rafael Soriano got the save in a thrilling 1-0 Baerga win
Game 2 saw Baerga ace Brandon Webb square off versus the ageless one, Jamie Moyer. The game was tied 3-3 after 9. Scott Spiezio was the hero singling in 2 in the 10th. Mota was the loser and Dotel picked up the win for the Convicts. Padilla got the save.
Game 3 saw the teams switch from hitter friendly Don Slaught field to pitcher friendly Penitentiary Field. Josh Beckett faced Brian Anderson. Again the game was tied at 3 after 9 and again the Cons prevailed in extra innings. Villarreal was the loser in relief for the Baergas and Sponneyburger got the win for the Cons. Con`s shortstop Cabrera was the hero getting 4 of the Convicts 8 hits
Game 4 saw Barry Zito face D. May. What a strange game. The Baergas score 4 in the 1st, then game 1 hero, Zito can`t get an out in the bottom of the 1st. He gives up 5 runs before leaving.However the Baerga hitters pound out 20 hits and 21 runs in winning by a football score of 21-7. ex Con Dmitri Young pounds out 5 hits including a home run to pace the Baergas
Game 5 at Penitentiary Field was a matchup of Vargas and Moyer. However it soon was a battle of the bullpens as after 9 innings the score was 1-1. The Baergas ran out of relievers and Barry Zito was forced to pitch and in the 10th longtime Con hero, Mike Bordick crashed a single leading the jubilant Cons to a 2-1 win. Dotel picked up his 2nc win of the series. The teams packed up and the series resumed at Don Slaught Field in Cleveland.
Pedro Martinez was the choice of Con`s manager Dave,[The Warden} Outcalt to close out the series. He pitched his heart out, going 9 innings giving up but 2 Baerga hits. However 1of them was a 2 run homer by Rondell White. Brandon Webb pitched 8 innings for the Baergas stranding runners every inning. Juan Gonzalez hit a solo homer for the Cons, but they left scads of runners on base and they lost a heartbreaker 2-1. Rafael Soriano pitched the 9th, getting his 2nc save of the series.
Game 7 would decide the champion. Josh Beckett would face the Con`s Vincente Padilla. Beckett was on top of his game and the Baerga bats erupted, similar to game 4 and the Baergas won easily winning 13-6. The Baergas scored early and often and despite a Bonds late inning homer the decision was over early. Beckett gets the win and Padilla notched the loss.
Dmitri Young was named MVP of the series as he hit 436 with 2 home runs. The Baergas win their 4th world series. The Cons went back to THE PEN to lick their wounds. Shortly after the Convicts traded for Jaret Wright, vowing to return next year. The Baergas were hit by the injury bug in real life baseball in 2004 and will not be a factor in next year`s race for the title. They hope to reload for another year
